Welcome to Our Site!!
I am so excited about the opportunity to help your child become a successful reader!
My Reading RockStars is a privately run enrichment program that teaches both reading readiness, early literacy skills and math to children ages 3 and older.
Instruction is centered around the children in the group and involves lots of fun and play through circle time activities, games, centers, and the use of technology.
Research shows that children get ready to read years before they start school; even from birth. The development of early literacy skills through early experiences with books and stories is critically linked to a child’s success in learning to read! Children’s early literacy skills predict their first-grade reading skills, which in turn predict their reading in fourth grade and their later school outcomes. The ability to read is an indicator of children’s likelihood to succeed in school, and that ability is built on skills children develop early, before the age of five. (Whitehurst, G. J., & Lonigan, C. J. (2002). Emergent literacy: Development from prereaders to readers. In S. B. Neuman & D. K. Dickinson (Eds.), Handbook of early literacy research (pp. 11–29). New York, NY: Guilford Press. )
Early literacy plays a key role in enabling the kind of early learning experiences that research shows are linked with academic achievement, reduced grade retention, higher graduation rates and enhanced productivity in adult life.
The goal of My Reading Rockstars is to provide children with the skills necessary to make a smooth transition from preschool to kindergarten in terms of reading readiness/early literacy. Students will be taught in a small group setting of 4 to 6 students for maximum assistance in a nurturing and educational atmosphere.
